WICKLOW TRAIL RIDE ITINERARY
wicklow FOREst Journey
Day 1 – Monday
The holiday kicks off at 10am from our farm, Ballinabarney Stud, in Glenealy Co. Wicklow. First we will have an orientation, then you will be introduced to your mounts. Our horses/cobs, although all different shapes and sizes, have each been handpicked by us to ensure they are comfortable, trustworthy and suited to the trekking terrain in Co. Wicklow. Each horse/cob is carefully paired to their rider to ensure satisfaction.
We will then begin our tour with an introductory trek to acquaint riders and horses around the farm boundary and neighbouring forest. Once everyone is happily mounted and riding comfortably as a group we will continue on our 2 1/2 hr scenic Wicklow forest journey.
This is a magical journey along forest trails with breathtaking views which serves as a taster for the week’s activities.
All accommodation is within a fifteen-minute drive of our farm. After your first trek, you will have ample time to explore local activities in the area or enjoy a pleasant walk at one of the many trails available.
Day 2 – Tuesday
After a full breakfast, today’s ride will take you to the stunning Carrick Mountain next to our farm. Starting at 10am, we will trek across to the picturesque village of Glenealy to begin the ascent up Carrick mountain. The winding forest trail takes us through beautiful beech trees and easy terrain, perfect for a canter if you like. You will ride to the summit, 381m above sea level, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Glenealy hinterland, Wicklow town and the East Coastline.
Lunch is eaten on the trial close to one of the many natural springs, and will be provided by us. You will have a total of four hours in the saddle with undulating scenic terrain and a welcome return to our farm will serve to whet your appetite for what is to come!
Overnight will be spent at your hotel and you can choose to eat dinner at the hotel or at one of the many restaurants available locally.
Day 3 – Wednesday
After a full breakfast, your third day of riding takes you along the 15km sandy coastlines of Oldbawn Beach and neighbouring beaches located in County Wexford. Our journey will begin at 11am, when you and the horses will be transported to our destination (approximately 35mins away), which includes a stunning gallop track and Dunes National Heritage Area. This beach is one of a kind with stunning views and terrains in every direction.
After our 2 ½ hr adrenaline trek, lunch will be eaten at a local pub in a nearby village. After lunch we will head back to our facility.
Day 4 – Thursday
After a full breakfast, today’s trek will truly be a spectacular one. Starting at 10am, we will transport you and the horses to our starting point in Laragh and embark on a journey exploring the beauty of Laragh. Set firmly in the heart of the Garden of Ireland, Laragh offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland.
This is an incredible journey through the beautiful Wicklow mountains, showcasing the best of the local countryside, gentle woodland, rolling hills and spectacular views.
During our journey, snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Upon arriving in Laragh, we will have a hearty meal at the Lynham of Laragh hotel.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 5 – Friday
Your last day of riding departs from our facility at 9am for your 1hr Brittas Bay Beach trek. One of the finest beaches in the East of Ireland, it has won numerous awards for its powdery white sand and beautiful dunes. We will ride the sandy shoreline at a comfortable pace as we splash in and out of the low tide. If you are up for another shot of adrenaline, you will have the opportunity to gallop the 4km shoreline – truly a ride dreams are made of.
